A Very Well Thought Out, Very Well Scientifically Researched, & Impressively Well Written Book!

Everyone, undoubtedly, has to face Depression at some point of time in their life. No exception to that. Rather stressing out about Depression or getting frustrated with it, it's 100 times wise to deal with it. But a million dollar question is how one can deal with it? Aid of antidepressants, medicines, even meditation and yoga gives a very little result or temporary feel good effect sometime, or doesn't give the exact same result in every case!

The monster always comes back to give another nightmare!!

Unless we understand this subject as a whole, we will fall short in dealing with it for sure. However, there is only so much to know. So what's the Solution? This book. Yes, this book will help you deal with the subject of Depression in a wholesome way. One need to know only this much knowledge that is presented in this book to deal, understand and solve the Depression from the root.

When I read this book, I have finished it in one sitting, just couldn't put it a side. I realized I would never go up to this extent to nail down the
subject of Depression. The author has presented not only the emotional, psychological and medical treatment aspects of Depression, but offered a unique blend of yogic perspective, Ayurveda knowledge, and complete understanding of complexities of life and relationships and imprints of the life events on our mind. That made this book a worth of my reading time.

The book presents the understanding of Depression, the uniqueness of each cases and offers varieties of solution to deal with it. Yes this book covers the real life case studies from across the cultures to make it all inclusive.

A very well thought out, very well scientifically researched, and above all impressively well written book presented with a genuine intention to help the victims! I am thankful to it's author for writing such a beautiful book! It helped a lot to understand many things.

I highly recommend to buy and read this book to all who have suffered or are suffering or know someone who is suffering from Depression. It will be honestly helpful.

Addictive narrative,“When all is not well” will transform completely the stigma that surrounds the depression.

This marvelous book “When all is not well” accompanies the readers to discover genuine findings by themselves. The clever, sincere and contemporary perspective of Om Swami who understands very well this complex world, reveals several answers by more natural and practical approaches to overcome the depression in the long term and for this I mean not temporary.
In addition to his innate vast wisdom (erudite in ancient Indian philosophy) Om Swami led a serious research about the physiopathology and biochemistry of depression, translated it in a pleasant narrative that introduces different viewpoints in a very objective and respectful way regarding traditional medicine, allowing people from diverse backgrounds to get a better understanding of the elements implied on developing depression.
Regardless if you have been exposed yourself or you know someone (could be relatives or strangers who has been depressed) thanks to the addictive rhythm of this precious book, it will make you feel related with the persons described on the cases. It moved me deeply to the tears I felt instantaneously compassion and empathy for each one of them.
I have been the witness of Om Swami’s healing voice and the power of his encouraging words. His unlimited compassion and unconditional love to all those who need him the most!

A Masterpiece! Do yourself a favor by reading it!

Yet another masterpiece by Om Swami. Extraordinary! Swami’s writing style is very clear, touching and addictive. I couldn’t put the book down until completion. His years of experience working with depressed people clearly shows through in his words. This is a must read for everyone (no matter who you are, whether you had depression or not).

Having been a victim to this demon called Depression, I stand testimonial to Om Swami’s healing touch. His loving and empathic words worked magic on me. He made me feel wanted in what felt like a wicked world. This book moved me to tears because I could relate to each one of those stories. A deep sense of compassion touched me triggering a desire to spread awareness about depression. It’s a condition that you don’t want even your enemy to experience.

This book, written from a Yogic perspective, has the potential to change, rather save lives. I’m planning to gift this book to everyone I know who needs help. Please do yourself and your loved ones a favor by reading this book.

Starred Review. Quinn's latest guide to personal finance covers the usual terrain: budgeting, consumer debt, mortgages, college funds and investments. However, not every financial writer is blessed with Quinn's charm-a blend of Pollyanna and Mary Poppins with a snappy wit thrown in-and her sensible approach to streamlining one's financial life make this a stellar entry in the genre. Quinn's most useful observation is that people seldom spend money they can't lay their hands on. Hence, she advocates the use of automated account debits to "disappear" paycheck earnings into savings. Credit card debt is dispatched with admirable simplicity: request lower rates from lenders, switch to a cheaper card, or convert credit card to mortgage loan debt. While such solutions aren't foolproof, Quinn explains the caveats of such methods. Some of the more confusing, recent mutations in home mortgages-Option and FlexPay Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARMs)-are explained and wisely cautioned against, though Quinn could easily be more emphatic in her warnings. She also addresses the topic of college tuition with a sensible bargain-hunter approach: despite the prestige of the Ivy League, many state or small private colleges offer equivalent or superior educations for considerably less money. Quinn's anecdotes about her own monetary struggles add credibility to her advice and uphold her well-deserved reputation as a source of sound financial guidance.

Excellent Ideas!!! A++++
By Learning All The Time
This outstanding book motivated me to overcome nine years of inertia regarding financial planning. My husband and I have been vaguely worried about not saving enough for retirement or college, but we kept procrastinating research into the myriad of competing plans and investments and strategies.

Fortunately, Jane Bryant Quinn has done the research and makes clear, solid recommendations about how to manage family finances. She covers all of the financial bases (including insurance and wills), so that you can be confident you haven't left anything out.

She helps you establish clear financial goals, and explains which type of investments work best for various goals. Once you create your financial plan and set up automatic deposits into your investment/retirement accounts, she recommends you leave them alone and make adjustments as needed once a year! No time and energy wasted on buy/sell decisions after each stock market wiggle.

Now granted, this investing program is unlikely to provide the spectacular returns that some lucky people have made in real estate or by timing the market. But Quinn argues that people who earn huge returns on their investments are really few and far between. Furthermore, she points out that those investors take on a lot of risk in order to get those kinds of returns.

Her book is more than "common sense" however, - in fact, some of her ideas fly in the face of popular belief. For example, I was convinced any financial plan would have to begin with a strict budget that would ruthlessly prune lattes etc... out of our lives. Quite the contrary - Quinn says that the "latte factor" is not a significant factor in a family's financial health - it's the big ticket items that show up on credit card statements.

Rather than attempt to budget and plan in ADVANCE where non-essential money goes, Quinn recommends you automate deposits to your savings/retirement accounts because you, in turn, will automatically, subconsciously, and painlessly start reining in your expenses to match the size of your checking account. It's an interesting theory, and one I want to start ASAP, as my efforts to budget every expenditure and invest anything left at the end of the month have not been very successful. She does say, however, that if you are habitually living beyond your means, racking up major credit card bills, etc..., you'll need to get that under control before you can really implement/benefit from most of the strategies in this book.

Fantastic Financial Book

I've been searching for a personal finance book like this for years! I bought this book because it's Washington Post columnist Michelle Singletary's Book Club selection for January. I was skeptical at first because I've read so many personal finance books that just confuse and bewilder me. This one, however, is perfect. You don't need to work in a brokerage firm to figure out how to invest your money. The strategies and advice are simple just like the author promises.

I now feel like I can form a solid financial plan and stick with it. I've already made changes to my work's 401(k) plan based on her recommendations. I opened an online banking account, checked my credit report, and am opening up an account with Vanguard to start a "Cushion Fund" through a Roth IRA or money market fund.

If you're like me and you've been procrastinating on how to start a retirement plan because the array of choices is too overwhelming, this book is ideal. It's a quick read but every chapter has worthwhile information. And I cannot stress enough how simple and straighfoward the advice is. The author includes websites, phone numbers, specific funds etc. She's done all the work.

The best personal finance guide for the average person!

Over the past five years I've read at least three dozen books on personal finance--everything from Marshall Loeb's classic tome to Ben Stein's contrarian books--and Quinn's latest is easily the best read I've encountered for the *average* person.

Quinn effectively covers budgeting, insurance, wills, investing/retirement, and buying a home. She writes clearly, concisely, and avoids financial jargon. All of the financial advice is sound, there is nothing unorthodox here.

Her defining trademark however, is her emphasis on 'Set it and Forget it' solutions that insure your well laid plans are automatically executed without too much intervention on your part. Quinn is one of the few financial experts that actually understands that most people can't spend hundreds of hours managing their money. If you ask folks to do that then it is just a matter of time until life, family, or work interfere and cause damaging mismanagement.

Most people are either misinformed about financial management or simply too lazy to do the things which they ought. Quinn's book nicely tackles both sorts with straightforward information and low-effort solutions.

About the Author
William Gibson has written plays, poetry, fiction, and an autobiographical family chronicle called A Mass for the Dead. The Miracle Worker, his most popular play, and Two for the Seesaw were both produced on Broadway and made into motion pictures. In 1982 he wrote a sequel to The Miracle Worker called Monday after the Miracle, which was based on the life of Helen Keller as a college student with Annie Sullivan as her tutor and translator. William Gibson now lives in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where he co-founded the Berkshire Theatre Festival.

An imprisoned mind set free

"The Miracle Worker," a play by William Gibson, has had an enduring presence as a piece of living literature. It appeared on Broadway during the 1959-60 dramatic season, was made into a motion picture a couple of years later, and then was remade as a television movie for the 1979-80 season. The play's genesis lies in the real story of Helen Keller (1880-1968), the woman who was struck deaf and blind by illness at the age of 19 months. "The Miracle Worker" tells how a young Helen was led out of her prison of silence and darkness by the remarkable Anne Sullivan, who set out to teach the girl sign language.
"The Miracle Worker" is a truly great play. Gibson brilliantly takes the historical facts of Keller's childhood (many of which can be found in "The Story of My Life," Keller's 1902 autobiography) and turns them into a suspenseful, profoundly moving piece of theater. Although the core of the play is the fiery relationship between Sullivan and the wildly undisciplined Helen, Gibson's drama takes in the entire Keller household. I was particularly moved by the relationship between "Miss Annie" and Helen's frustrated but devoted mother.
"The Miracle Worker" is remarkable because much of the story is told not in dialogue, but in Gibson's stage directions. This is one of those plays which is not only powerful in performance, but also a gripping read.
Gibson's play is one of those great examples of a drama that takes real American life stories and turns them into enduring art; in that sense, it is comparable to such great works as "The Crucible," by Arthur Miller, or "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail," by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee.
"The Miracle Worker" is not only a compelling human drama, but also a reflection on courage, love, education, and the transcendent power of language. As an interesting complementary text, I recommend Octavia Butler's science fiction story "Speech Sounds" (which can be found in Butler's book "Bloodchild and Other Stories").

If I had a friend that didn’t want to spend the time or money on classes I would recommend this book

I learned to sew from taking classes, after reading many different how-to books. If I had a friend that didn’t want to spend the time or money on classes I would recommend this book. The tone is straightforward and easy to follow (not weird or hipster).
The glossary is fairly complete.

There is a photo for each step of every technique. Sometimes how-to books leave out photos of “easy” or “obvious” steps for space, but this one does not! And really, no step is "easy" or "obvious" to a beginner so this part of the book is quite valuable to a "true" beginner.

If I had a more challenging sewing pattern that I wanted to sew, especially vintage patterns that sometimes didn’t come with step-by-step instructions, I would definitely refer to the project instructions in this book (especially for a jacket) to assemble the pattern pieces. (I don’t know if I would run to my sewing machine to sew up some of the projects in this book [elastic skirt] though).

I figured sewing was a skill I should probably learn, and just purchased my first sewing machine. I bought several books to go along with my machine, as I wasn't sure where to begin. I paged through most of them and grew intimidated by the sometimes undefined words, or instructions without enough images for me to grasp what needed to be done. This was the one book out of the four I purchased that I read from cover to cover immediately. This book is perfect for people like me, who have never sewn a stitch, or been around someone who has. I felt intimidated after unboxing my machine, but this book made me feel confident enough to begin my first project.

In short, if you've never done a thing with sewing before and want to learn, this is the book you should start with. The images are clear, the directions are precise, and it goes into enough detail that I felt like I could progress without feeling frustrated.

Great book for learning to sew- child or adult!

I have always wanted to learn to sew and could never quite figure it out on my own. This book is brilliant!! It defines all the sewing terms you need to know and starts you with the very basics. Who knew I had been sewing buttons on all wrong. I was thrilled to see the book shows how to use a pattern so once I get the basics down I will be able to sew anything. This book even helped me figure out my sewing machine! The projects are well thought out and the instructions are very clear. First Time Sewing is not just well written, it is well organized and the pictures are very helpful and lovely. I have done two projects from the book and they turned out great. This book world be a great gift for anyone young or old that wants to learn to sew. I cannot wait to try more of the projects. Next up for me is the basic elastic waist skirt. My sumer wardrobe will rock- this book is worth every penny.

this book has been a life-saver for school and understanding if bullet-point or normal terms what a nurse should be looking for using equipment, taking care of a patient with a certain condition and even just understanding pathophysiology without all the fluff and confusion. Do yourself a favor a buy the book!!! Made me feel like I could really achieve my course instead of feeling like a deer in headlights

Happy Nurse!

New nurse (to the ICU) - I came from Oncology. ICU is a whole different learning curve. I felt this gave a well explained overview of the ICU life. (Obviously you will see TONS of different diagnosis, s/s, and may need to go WAY in depth on some topics) This will get you the fundamentals as well as common things to look for. It is an AMAZING reference so far. Love the different diagrams, tables, pictures, lay outs.

A book that returns you to the unbounded rigor of calculus

Not quite a page-turner, but this book presents good applications of tensor math. Sometimes difficult to follow, the book omits many "assumed" steps. However, a fine escape into the world of absolute differential calculus.

This book constitutes the history of Absolute Differential Calculus, born from the cooperation from Albert Einstein and Tullio Levi Civita. It also keeps an account on what Gregorio Ricci Curbastro had previously estabilished on Tensors. I think it's a wonderful occasion, to study from the original papers of the authors of a theory, though they are generally somehow obscure, with respect to textbooks. This is definitely a great book.
